Scaffold-based breast reconstruction is an innovative regenerative approach designed to create living, natural breast tissue rather than relying on permanent synthetic implants. Instead of silicone or saline devices, this method uses biodegradable and biocompatible scaffolds made from materials such as collagen, specialized polymers, or decellularized biological tissue. These structures act as temporary frameworks that support the growth of the patient’s own cells, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Over time, the scaffold gradually dissolves and is replaced by newly formed, vascularized tissue. Advanced technologies like 3D printing enable precise customization of shape and volume, while adipose-derived stem cells and growth factors can enhance tissue regeneration. The goal is to achieve softer, longer-lasting, and more natural-feeling reconstruction outcomes with potentially fewer long-term complications.
